सामान्य प्रश्न
Find answers to common questions about HEIC image format and our conversion service.
What is a HEIC file?
HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is a modern image format introduced by Apple in 2017 with iOS 11. It uses advanced HEVC (High Efficiency Video Coding) compression to store images at roughly half the file size of JPEG while maintaining equal or better quality. HEIC also supports image sequences, transparency, depth data, and burst photos in a single file.
Why should I convert HEIC to PNG or JPG?
While HEIC is efficient, it is not universally supported. Many websites, social media platforms, and older devices cannot open HEIC files. Converting to PNG or JPG ensures your images can be viewed, edited, and shared by anyone, regardless of their device or software.
Is HEIC2 free to use?
Yes, HEIC2 is completely free. There are no hidden fees, no registration requirements, and no limits on the number of conversions. You can convert as many HEIC files as you need.
Are my uploaded images private?
Absolutely. Your images never leave your device. All conversion happens directly in your browser using WebAssembly. No files are uploaded to any server, which means there is nothing to store, share, or analyze. This is the most private approach possible.
What is the maximum file size I can upload?
You can upload HEIC files up to 50MB each. This covers most photos captured on modern smartphones and cameras. If you have larger files, you may need to compress them before uploading.
Can I convert multiple files at once?
Yes, HEIC2 supports batch conversion. You can select and upload multiple HEIC files simultaneously, and they will all be converted in a single batch. This is perfect for converting entire photo albums.
What is the difference between JPG and JPEG?
There is no technical difference between JPG and JPEG. Both refer to the same image format created by the Joint Photographic Experts Group. The only difference is the file extension: JPEG was the original three-letter extension, but early Windows versions required three-letter extensions, so JPG became an alternative. We support both extensions for your convenience.
Does HEIC2 reduce image quality?
We process conversions at maximum quality settings. For PNG output, the conversion is lossless, meaning no image data is lost. For JPG and JPEG output, we use a high quality setting (95%) that preserves virtually all visual detail while reducing file size.
Does PNG support transparency?
Yes, PNG supports full transparency through an alpha channel. This means you can have images with transparent backgrounds, which is essential for logos, icons, and web design elements. HEIC also supports transparency, and this is preserved when converting to PNG. JPG and JPEG do not support transparency.
Do I need to create an account to use HEIC2?
No registration or account is required. HEIC2 is designed to be immediately usable. Simply visit the website, upload your files, and convert. We believe file conversion should be frictionless and private.
How long does the conversion take?
Most conversions complete in just a few seconds. Since everything runs locally in your browser, the speed depends on your device processing power and file size. There is no server wait time. Batch conversions run sequentially and each file typically takes 1-5 seconds.
Which devices and browsers are supported?
HEIC2 works on all modern browsers including Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge, and Opera. It works on desktop computers, tablets, and mobile phones. The interface is fully responsive and optimized for all screen sizes.
What happens to my files after conversion?
Uploaded files are automatically and permanently deleted from our servers within one hour of upload. Converted files are also deleted within the same timeframe. We do not keep backups or copies of your files.
Can I convert HEIC files on my iPhone or iPad?
Yes, you can use HEIC2 on any device with a web browser, including iPhones and iPads. While iOS devices create HEIC files by default, the Safari browser can handle the upload and download process smoothly.
Why is HEIC not supported everywhere?
HEIC uses the HEVC (H.265) codec, which is patent-encumbered and requires licensing fees. Many software developers and platform providers have not adopted HEIC due to these licensing complexities. Additionally, HEIC is relatively new compared to JPEG (1992) and PNG (1996), so adoption is still growing.
Is there a limit on how many files I can convert?
No, there is no limit on the total number of conversions. You can use HEIC2 as often as you need. For each batch, you can upload multiple files simultaneously.
What image formats will be supported in the future?
We plan to expand our format support to include WebP, AVIF, BMP, TIFF, GIF, and SVG. We also plan to add image editing features such as resizing, cropping, rotating, and compression optimization.
Can I use HEIC2 for commercial purposes?
Yes, you can use HEIC2 for commercial purposes. There are no usage restrictions. However, the service is provided "as is" without warranties, so we recommend testing with your specific use case.
What should I do if the conversion fails?
If a conversion fails, first check that your file is a valid HEIC image. Try uploading a single file at a time. If the problem persists, ensure your file is not corrupted and is under the 50MB size limit. If you continue to experience issues, please contact us with details about the file.
How does HEIC compression compare to JPEG?
HEIC typically achieves files that are 40-50% smaller than equivalent quality JPEG files. This is because HEIC uses the more modern HEVC compression algorithm, which is significantly more efficient than the JPEG compression algorithm developed in the early 1990s.
Is HEIC2 compatible with screen readers?
Yes, we have designed HEIC2 to be accessible. The website is built with semantic HTML, ARIA labels, keyboard navigation support, and high contrast for readability. We strive to meet WCAG 2.1 AA standards.
Do you store conversion history?
No, we do not store any conversion history. Every session is treated independently. We do not track which files were uploaded, when conversions happened, or who performed them.
Can I convert HEIC files from Windows or Android?
Yes, while HEIC files are most commonly created on Apple devices, you can convert HEIC files from any device. Windows and Android users who receive HEIC files from others can use HEIC2 to convert them to compatible formats.
What is the best format for web use?
For web use, JPG (or JPEG) is typically the best choice for photographs due to its small file size and fast loading times. PNG is better for graphics, logos, and images requiring transparency. Both formats are universally supported by all web browsers.
